About Grade Calculators
A class grade is rarely a simple average. Tests may count for 40 percent while homework counts for 15, a hard exam might be curved, and the final can swing your grade by a full letter. The grade calculators in this category handle each of those situations with the same math your teacher's gradebook uses, so you can see where you stand at any point in the term.
Start with the weighted grade calculator if you want your current grade from category weights in your syllabus, or the final grade calculator if you already know your grade and want the exact score you need on the final exam. Both show the result as a percent and a letter, and both tell you clearly when a target is already safe or no longer reachable.
Two tools cover curves. The grade curve calculator applies five common methods, including the square root curve and a flat bump that lifts the top score to 100, and compares them side by side. The bell curve grade calculator takes your score, the class mean and the standard deviation and turns them into a z-score, a percentile and a letter under a cutoff scheme you can see and edit.
Every calculator runs in your browser with no account and nothing saved. Results use a common US letter scale by default, but grading policies differ between schools and teachers, so check your syllabus for the exact weights, cutoffs and rounding rules that apply to your class, and treat every result as a planning estimate.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my grade in a class?
Find the weight of each grade category in your syllabus, multiply each category average by its weight, add the results, and divide by the total weight. The weighted grade calculator does this for you and also shows how many points each category contributes.
How do I figure out what I need on my final?
Subtract your current grade times the share of the course that is not the final from your target, then divide by the final's weight. The final grade calculator returns the exact score, the score needed for every letter, and whether your target is already locked in.
What is the difference between curving and grading on a bell curve?
Curving usually adds points to every score or scales them, then uses the normal letter scale, so everyone can still earn an A. Bell curve grading assigns letters by position relative to the class mean, so only a set share of the class lands in each letter band.
Which letter grade scale do these calculators use?
By default they use a common US plus/minus scale where an A- starts at 90, a B- at 80, a C- at 70 and a D- at 60, with a switch to whole letters. School-specific versions load the local scale, and you can always type an exact target percent.
Are these grade calculators accurate?
The math is exact for the numbers you enter. Differences from your official grade usually come from rounding rules, dropped scores, extra credit or category weights that differ from what you entered, so compare your inputs with your syllabus and gradebook.
